My mom bought me a new bicycle with the intention of teaching me how to ride it, I learned to ride at age ten and at sixteen was reminded of the difficulties when it was time for me to get my driver’s license.   My struggle was not due to a lack of coordination or ability, because I have been very active in varying sports beginning with football at the age of four.   I excelled at baseball, lacrosse, basketball, roller hockey, and football, but feared the bicycle. I loved the brand new bicycle Mom bought for me and was anxious to learn to ride.   When I actually got on the bike however, I did not feel like I was in control.   As a person who needs to feel in control of situations, I was not comfortable.   Mom said I would gain control as I became better and learned to balance.   I tried to learn and she tried to teach for years.   These attempts usually ended in a screaming match between us and never seemed to get me any closer to mastering the art of bike riding.   I was embarrassed to be the only person my age who did not know how to ride a bicycle, but the fear of injury and lack of control always won out over the embarrassment. By the age of ten, Mom had given up trying to teach me, because we were both tired of it.   I had outgrown the bicycle Mom had bought me without ever riding it.   Through the many battles over it and failed trials, though, it looked like it had been through a war.   I had three younger siblings by this time and all of them had learned to ride bicycles with no more than the usual struggles of learning.   When my four-year-old brother, Dominic, mastered the skill, I knew it was time I overcame my fear and learned.   Somehow, I took strength and courage from my little brother and managed to keep a bicycle in the upright position long enough to say I could ride a bike.   I continue to struggle with the balance and would not say the skill is something I ever mastered, but at least I got over feeling like a failure. When it came time for me to learn to drive a car, the fear of not being in control returned.   I put off getting my permit in attempt to make excuses for not getting my license.   Everyone else my age seemed very excited to have the opportunity to drive, but I found ways to avoid it. I used the same courage I had gained with the bicycle to tackle my fear of driving and met the challenge.   I did not want to be the only teenager around that could not drive a car. At age sixteen I did get my license and have become a good driver.   It did not require balance as the bicycle did and control was easier to gain. Although the fear of not being in control has played a part throughout my life to this point, I have not let it take over my life.   With courage and determination, I have overcome the difficult challenges in my life and plan to take on any new challenges that come along with the same determination.   When people are faced with challenging situations, they have two choices. Definition and Examples of Division in Rhetoric In classical rhetoric, division is the part of a speech in which an orator outlines the key points and overall structure of the speech. Also known in Latin as the divisio or partitio, and in English as the partition. The etymology originates from  the Latin, divide. Observations of the Term The partition is of two parts: the speaker can state the material on which there is agreement with the opponent and what remains in dispute, or can list the points to be proved. In the latter event it is important to be brief, complete, and concise. Cicero notes that there are additional rules for partition in philosophy that are not relevant here.(George Kennedy, Classical Rhetoric and Its Christian and Secular Tradition, 2nd ed. University of North Carolina Press, 1999)The Latin term divisio is related to partitio, but indicates that the main heads of the argument are prepared in view of the opposing position. The author of  Rhetorica ad Herrenium describes the divisio as having two parts. The first contains the points of agreement and disagreement between litigants arising out of the narrative. This is followed by a distribution, which is made up of two parts: the enumeration and the exposition. The enumeration involves telling how many points one will make. The exposition is th e giving of the points to be discussed. No more than three points are recommended. Cicero (Inv. 1.31) indicates that the partitio can take two forms: points of agreement and disagreement with a stated problem, or the matters which we intend to discuss are briefly set forth in a mechanical way. The increasing use of social network sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and numerous others allows bullies to go beyond verbal bullying to become cyber bullies. Leishman takes a closer look into a victim of cyber bullying and interviews David, from Burlington, Ont., about his life living through cyber bullying. In David’s case, bullying did not begin on the Internet, but at school. The transfer of capital is influenced by three main organisations and financial institutions; these are the World Trade organisation (WTO), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. The organisations don’t literally deal with companies and countries money, but instead guide and work together to make trade easier and also to encourage developing countries to trade in order to develop further. The WTO has been set up with around 150 countries, with over 30 planning on joining in the near future. They are set up to encourage trade between countries, but also to ensure the trade is fair and legitimate. The WTO works by particular people representing each country to discuss any trade problems and to ensure everybody is treated equally. One of the largest problems the WTO has had to deal with is the â€Å"banana wars†, where countries in the Caribbean and Latin America have been allowed free trade since 1975, with no excess fee to Europe as they were part of their colony. Although the WTO is far more focused on a global aspect of trade, paying focus to both developed and developing countries, the IMF is far more focused on developing countries, especially those that are in need of financial support or aid. One of the most recent cases the IMF aided was the Haiti earthquake in January 2010, they cleared the $268 million worth of debt as well as giving financial aid over the next few years in order to help build up the economy and their infrastructure. The IMF does however rely on other perhaps more developed countries to donate to this fund, and then they are responsible for making the decision on whether or not to offer financial support to a country. Unlike the IMF the world Bank is perhaps more focused on a long term plan in supporting developing and poorer countries, one of their main focuses is sustainability, providing education, resources and opportunities for countries to improve their economy. A good example of this is the Morocco solar plant project, where a solar plant has been built and shall grow over the years to come, it can already power up to 1million homes over a year and with extension may be able transfer some of this energy to European countries as we are further away from the Equator, which encourages morocco to trade over a longer period. In conclusion, there has to be a good setup for trade as trade has become one of the most important factors involved in a development of a country and often, countries can be treated unfairly. It’s important for everybody in the world to have equal opportunities and for the better developed countries to help developing countries as quite often this is to their benefit.

There is always the existence of power in the society when people communicate, although it might not be evidently observed. At most instances, communication is assumed to take place between equal people, but this might not always be the case. There are basically different types of hierarchy that exists in the society which makes some people to be more powerful than others. This is a communication that takes place in intercultural communication. Those who are powerful either knowingly or unknowingly creates an environment that makes their communication more profound, hence asserting their authority over the others. People can be found in one communication group due to involuntary or voluntary cases. Involuntary occurs for instance when a person is of a certain gender, race, ethnic group, age and physical ability. The voluntary orientation occurs because of education background, geographic location, marital status, and socio-economic status. Basically those in the dominant group of communication usually impede those who are not in the same category with them. The most powerful in the society in terms of communication are usually also more privileged when it comes to many issues. There are some power relations that are usually rigid than others. For instance, power that occurs between gender is more rigid in changing than power that occurs for instance in a relationship between a student and a teacher. There are however many complication that can occur in intercultural communication due to the barriers that exists. The minority have been mostly powerless in communication compared with the other groups in the society. Basically the whites have always believed to be superior over many minority groups, especially the blacks. This is being ethnocentric. Many developed countries have looked down upon the less developed countries especially from Africa as they believe that the people from these countries can not be equated with them. The blacks whether immigrants or those who were born in the developed countries thus continue to be seen as less important people in the society, hence can not even be listened to, or be given an opportunity to prove their prowess in any arena by the whites. The white race believes to be the most dominant race than all the other races, hence undermining the rest. Many of the black people are also stereotyped in the American society. Many blacks can be found to be imprisoned more than the whites, yet in essence, it can not be said that the blacks are the ones who commit crimes more than the whites. But because of stereotypes, they are just considered to be naturally criminals. Any black seen walking around the white dominated area is usually looked at as a person who is bound to commit a crime even if a person has got no such intentions. This can occur because of generalizing issues that blacks are criminals, yet the whites commit crimes just as the blacks. In fact, because of stereotypes, the black suspect is more likely to receive punishment or a harsher punishment than a white suspect charged with the same offence. In most cases, stereotypes occur in unconscious manner, thus the only way to overcome it is by having a conscious way of avoiding it. In many white homes, children might grow up hearing the N word often used by their parents against the black people, hence the children also grow up with the same stereotypic nature the elders have over the blacks. Because of stereotype and prejudice that is rampant in the society against the blacks, they usually find themselves victims of discrimination. The blacks have been discriminated over many issues in the society ranging from political, social, and economic perspectives. In many instances, the blacks have been denied equal opportunity in the society by the more powerful whites. Discrimination can be exhibited in various forms that include subtle non verbal to verbal insults. Because of prejudice and stereotyping the less powerful people find themselves being even eliminated in the society through various means that can include genocide. This is a very mild form of discrimination. Discrimination can be at interpersonal or institutional level. Although there are nowadays less cases of interpersonal discrimination, the institutional level discrimination are still very high. At institutional level, the blacks are usually denied equal representation in different institutions in the society compared to their white counterparts. As already explained, the blacks usually find themselves at the wrong hand of the law more than the whites, not because the blacks commit crimes than whites, but because the law enforcers are bound to look for mistakes among the blacks than they would do with the whites. Discrimination is even evident in the law paying job application fields in which a white man, who has got a criminal record, has got higher chances of getting employed than a black man who has got a clean criminal record. In such a case, the employer is not interested in the records of the employees, but rather concerned with the race of the applicant. Therefore, despite many efforts that are put in the society to show that there is equality in different spheres, intercultural communication still plays as a major hindrance in the achievement of this.

However, since we like to get invited to parties sometimes, we try to avoid being too pedantic when possible. Not all pedants are quite so chilled out, though, so you might want to keep an ear out for these grammar myths so that you can correct any overeager correctors you meet! Myth #1: Never Split an Infinitive The â€Å"infinitive† is a verb form where a verb is combined with â€Å"to,† such as â€Å"to run† or â€Å"to jump.† It’s also the subject of one of the most common grammar myths around: â€Å"Never split an infinitive.† The most famous example of a split infinitive comes from Star Trek, wherein various crews of the USS Enterprise are charged with a mission â€Å"to boldly go where no one has gone before.† The Enterprise looks much smaller there than we remember. Here, the adverb â€Å"boldly† appears in the middle of the infinitive â€Å"to go.† As such, some people insist that it’s grammatically incorrect and should be â€Å"to go boldly where no one has gone before.† This â€Å"rule† was popularized by Henry Alford in 1864, based on the idea that splitting infinitives was â€Å"flying in the face of common usage.† But many writers have split infinitives throughout the history of modern English. And sometimes placing an adverb between â€Å"to† and a verb is a good way of ensuring clarity, since it removes ambiguity about the word being modified. Kirk, Spock and friends can thus â€Å"go boldly† without worrying too much about their grammar. Myth #2: Don’t Start a Sentence with a Conjunction Another common grammar myth is that you should never start a sentence with a conjunction, especially coordinating conjunctions (e.g., â€Å"and,† â€Å"or† or â€Å"but†). In fact, these terms can be used to start sentences if required. The myth may have origins in teachers noticing schoolchildren overusing conjunctions like â€Å"and,† such as in the following: We went on holiday to Brazil. And mom went swimming in the sea. And dad got sunburn. And a monkey stole my lunch†¦ Cheeky monkey! When kids write like this, they might be told not to start sentences with conjunctions. However, while starting every sentence with â€Å"and† is clearly a bad idea, in some situations beginning a statement with a conjunction is fine, like presenting something as an afterthought: I need to buy milk. And cheese. But not bread. Starting a statement with a conjunction can also help to transition between sentences or enhance the flow of prose. It isn’t always correct, especially when you’re left with a sentence fragment in formal writing, but you can usually tell if a conjunction has been misused. Annoyingly, this myth persists despite a consensus among grammarians and writers that it’s nonsense.
